Dan Newman started at Ravenscroft Primary School in Kirkby as a level 2 Apprentice in Activity Leadership that he had seen advertised through Knowsley Council website. After being interviewed by the PE Co-ordinator and Head Teacher, Dan secured his first Apprenticeship contract.

Dan found his feet quickly and was leading PE lesson in the 2nd term of his Apprenticeship for KS1/Foundation Pupils. Dan feels that being open to requirements of Physical Education, including a desire to understand the curriculum really helped his progress.

The highlights of that first year included being asked to go on the residential PGL trip and entering the Mayors Award.  Dan says the biggest challenge was picking up coughs and colds and needing to use his holidays to recover for the next term.

In his 2nd Year Dan took on a lot more responsibility including working on PE lessons, Playground play, breakfast clubs, 4 after-school clubs and increasing the representative teams for the school from 4 to 8. Dan also got involved in supporting the ‘catch up’ programme and leading the Jedi writing lessons for the younger pupils.

Dan extended his Level 3 PE and School Sport Apprenticeship into a 3rd year to cope with the demands of the role – securing a full-time position with the school in July 2017. He is now enjoying supporting the school through more classroom based and one to one support for pupils and completing of the Annual School Sports Premium Report.

In the future Dan would like to complete his teaching qualification and continue his development in Education.
